I Feel Like a Morning Star

Post by Guest on 5/10/2014, 8:11 am

Some day, I'll toss all your presents. And bury the letters left unsent, cause it's bad to what's easy just cause it's easy, an' I wanna do what pleases me but I can't. Oh, no.

I'd been walking around camp, mainly on the beach, and I began to wonder why I didn't go exploring more. I hadn't been inside of most of the buildings at camp yet, even. So I decided to check the forge out. As soon as I enter I feel the searing heat hit my face. Oh gosh. I really did prefer the cold weather, I did. And I was wearing a tanktop, graphic shirt, AND jacket. It was just early spring, after all. I threw my jacket to the side and practically ripped of the tee shirt, just in capris and the slightly torn black tank top. Much better. I look around and take a deep breath in, smelling the air. With no doubt, metal, sweat, and the oddly pleasant smell of things, mainly wood, burning. Looking around the place I felt a strong industrial revolution vibe, which I could learn to enjoy very much. There were odd metal scraps around the room, on tables in the corners and such. I smile as I pick up one that was very rusty, and another copper piece that had already turned green blue. They were sort of spiraling and charming. I set them down, smiling.

Sawyer was in a corner of the forge, putting together screws, gears, wires and polished metal cautiously. Next to her was the sword she had just finished creating, a large sword with a saw-edged blade, all celestial bronze. She had had fun making the grip and pommel, shaping them like a claw clutching at the blade, and polishing it until it shone.

Right now, though, she was working on her newest automaton. The ugly Latino girl had her greasy hair pulled back in an olive bandana, wearing a red tank top under a boyish tartan blouse with the sleeves rolled up the arms, showing her bruises, burns, edemas and blisters, and a black bermuda, with trekking shoes. The burn on the side of her face gleamed in the firelight as she worked on her project, screwing two gears together with a screwdriver whilst binding some wires together.

Somebody walked in, and Sawyer briefly turned around; it was not one of her siblings. She was a girl, perhaps a bit younger than her -- definitely shorter, but there again, Sawyer was 1m80, taller than most people at Camp, not to mention her muscles -- and was quite pretty.

As I set down the metal scraps, I become aware I'm not alone. There's another girl here, obviously a child of a forge God, and I wave to her. "Hey..."

OOC: Sorry it's so late, and sorry it's so short. I've been really busy.

OOC: I totally understand ;D

BIC: The girl waved at her, which surprised her, but Sawyer raised a hand.

"Hey there," she replied in her rough, masculine voice, before turning back to her project.

I walk closer to her. "What are you making?" I ask, both trying to make small talk and asking out of curiosity.

OOC: Luna is my self insert so I guess for reference here's a somewhat blurry picture of "us" https://imgur.com/DJWHFDH , for reference?

"An automaton," she replied. "It's not yet finished."

She looked up again, and took the soldering iron that was at her left and applied it on the piece of metal she was working on; she couldn't see the face of the girl, but she didn't doubt she was making a disgusted expression at her facial burn and her ugliness. Everybody did.

"Who're you?" she finally asked.

I walk closer "Cool, I like automatons." I watch her for a few seconds, recognizing the soldering iron. I knew how to operate one, I just never did.
"Oh, I'm Emma. But most people I know call me Luna."

"Oh, I'm Emma. But most people I know call me Luna.," she said.

"Cool. I'm Sawyer," the brawny Latino girl replied in her deep, masculine voice.

She put the soldering iron aside and started screwing the metal pieces she had polished and shaped last day together, making the inside, with the gears, wires, pistons and levers.

"What brings you here?"

"Oh, you know. Just looking around camp, poking my nose in other peoples' business, stuff like that. I say with a smirk, joking about the snooping around part. People often had a hard time telling if I was sarcastic or not, though.

Sawyer got the sarcasm; she may not hang out with people much, but she knew how to make the difference between irony and seriousness. She gave Luna a smirk that dug dimples in her facial burn and connected a wire with a place of the machine.

"Are you new?" she asked.

"Not necessarily... I've been here for almost a year." I say, watching her work. I was happy she could tell when I was being sarcastic or not. Not many people could. "And you?"

"I've been here since I was eight or nine," the muscular Brazilian girl replied, screwing two parts together.

She wired them together then took the soldering iron once more and applied it on her creation with precision. She was designing it to work undersea as well as on the ground, with an alternate quadrupedal form, the robot's purpose being to shoot Greek fire as well as other chemical substances -- corrosives, flammables, all the fun. It had taken her a month to do the plans and one more week to get the whole material together.

"Seventeen," she replied. "Turnin' eighteen in October."

She put the soldering iron aside and took the electric connector pliers to install, as the tool's name indicated, an electrical connector into the unfinished robot with delicacy.

"Okay, first test," she grumbled and pressed a button. Gears started turning with a mechanical purr as the robot started taking steps forward; Sawyer stopped him after the fifth.

I watch carefully and closely. I gasp as the machine began to move. "That," I begin, "is SO cool."
I smile as I watch her turn it off. "I was in robotics club at my school. The boys on my team did most of the work though. I was in charge of writing and helping sometimes."

"Thank ya," Sawyer mumbles as she compliments her. "It's not yet finished though."

"I was in robotics club at my school," the girl Luna said. "The boys on my team did most of the work though. I was in charge of writing and helping sometimes."

"Ah, we have that too at my school. Though at ours, it's called mechanics work group," the Brazilian said, inspecting her robot. "Where d'you live?"

"I came from Minnesota." I said, picking up the soldering iron. I liked working with one. "Sadly, the robotics season there only runs for a few months, and everything is very basic. We work with materials from kits. I work on other things in my spare time, though..."
