UPDATE

CYPRESS MASS SHOOTING
Gang Violence
Cypress, Texas, United States of America

This is an old problem, but is still happening and I know it because this happened near my house last year on November eleventh. A gang wanted to make themselves known, so they shot into the air a couple times. Then a gang member stood on a chair and fires into the crowd below. Two teenagers were killed and many youths were injured.
The main message of this update is that this stuff isn't just happening in the Middle East, or international seas, but where YOU live also. Be cautious around suspicious people and avoid areas of severe conflict.

ISIS
Terrorism/Nationalism
Middle Eastern Area

Unfortunately, I don't know much about Isis. All I know is that they're a severe terrorist group who is more than a mere militia. They are a group who takes things as far as beheading. No joke. The third picture you see when you search "Isis terrorists" on google images is a man holding two heads. Human heads. The Islamic state of Iraq and Syria is a force that must be dealt with before it's too late.

Figured I'd place this here as well, basically it's me going int Putin and his land grabs first, and the ISIS/Nationalism Post cold war second. Cheers.

Hmm an interesting topic, I figure I'll give my input on it since I am currently in college and my major basically is all of this stuff (Political Science). I figure 'll start with Putin and Russia. The thing about Putin is that he is smart, like really smart. He knew he could use the rising dissent in the Ukraine for a land grab, and so he did. Everyone thought he was going to grab more, but again Putin is too smart for this. He will take small chunks at a time, because he still needs to keep up international integrity. As well he got the most prized land in the Ukraine, a warm water naval port.

It is no lie that the younger generation looks back at the USSR in Russia as a time of strength and wants that back not knowing what it was actually like, but will they return under the red flag that depends. Putin is by no means a communist, in fact the current part he is involved in and was "Elected" through was United Russia, a very centrist group. Now this could mark the start of the perhaps reinstatement of the Russian empire, but I do not think they would rename the country the USSR again which means "Union of Soviet Socialist Republics."

On the topic of the ISIS and nationalism as a whole. It is no secret after the cold war which most of the struggles were over ideologies, The Korean war, The Vietnam war, the Afghan War, a lot of the conflicts were based on ideology. There were he exceptions, but not many. The Cold war as a whole was time of ideology struggle and sense of destruction and could be argued there were less problems during this time, this is a theory called Neo-Realism. Though when the cold war ended everything became about nationalism.

If you don't know what nationalism is, it's basically extreme patriotism. Now look at a lot of modern struggles, the Bosnian Genocide, the Rwanda Genocide, the struggle in the Ukraine, the ISIS, all of these have there central cores within nationalism, which in my opinion is the most destructive political force around. Now for a historical example of nationalism, you all have probably heard of a party called the Nazi party in German roughly 80ish years ago, and even today with the American Nazi Part, or the Golden Dawn of Greece. Nazi is basically short for National Socialism. the idea that your group is supreme, and all others are inferior. If anything I fear some countries may experience a nazi revolution look at Greece for example and their Golden Dawn. The currently hold 3 seats within the European parliament, and 16 in the Hellenic parliament. Though this may not sound like a lot you have to remember this is under a party that people know and revile yet somehow got seats in the upper houses of the Grecian government.

All in all the middle east as a whole is and always has been a mess. Partial blame to the UK, but the point stands the ISIS is just another example of nationalism run rampant.

As well other world problems to think about are the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (I have some friends from Israel so I try to keep up with this), the current struggle and violence within Egypt, basically everything within the Sudan and Somalia, Mexican child immigration problems, the whole Kosovo sovereignty crisis(Though it isn't as much of a problem anymore), and quite few other ones.

Again you look at all these and all of them scream nationalism. If anyone has questions, feel free to ask.

we should also add good news, because as many horrible things are occurring, they're not the only things occurring.

For instance, Civilians in an Abandoned McDonald’s Gain Control of Wandering NASA Satellite is a pretty nifty headline. They're gathering data from space with a decommissioned satellite still floating around.

edit: WHAT DID MY SIGNATURE DO WHY WHY

I have to do that for school sometimes, but from my view, the topic doesn't have to look pretty. It's articles. But if I took the time to find the HTML again, I could add it and see how you guys like it.

Hey guys, if you're reading this right now.

Athena has said she has an overload of PM's and I kinda technically started this with her...xD

Also she said you had questions on Isis and Putin. I mean i am the one who put up the topic. Plus since my dad is in the navy i can give out extra information (probably shouldn't but my dad never said..) that isnt vailable to the news so ask me questions on that stuff since Athena doesnt know much about it.

Since I own no working computer and my phone can't download anything useful, the best I can offer is powtoons. Basically it's a moving slideshow that has little symbols that represent different things. If we're doing that, I'm making a camp half blood account so that all three of us who run IPED can all make a slid show at any time. Sound good?

As I said above I'm majoring in political science currently so I'm sort of drenched in this type of stuff. So If anyone has any questions I'll be glad to help. In particular I did a lot of studies on Fascism, Nazism, and nationalism in today's world, but I'm also pretty knowledgeable on most international topics currently. Cheers.

W-I-P, don't read this yet.

International Political and Economical Discussion (I.P.E.D.) 104451
It reads "There won't be World Cup!" It was one of the biggest mottos from the protests.

I'd like to complain about a problem that I think that most of North-american and European have probably never heard or cared about, but I think you guys should be aware about it. Mainly because it involves a world-wide event, the World Cup, and the dirty side of it.

I am a Brazilian young citizen and I had no reasons to cheer the World Cup. I'm not a big fan of football, but it has nothing to do with it. I will start from the very beginning: From june of 2013 to even during the event, there were many protests whose mainly objective was to stop the World Cup. An ignorant foreigner, and some of us, Brazilians, may wonder: "Why would the people try to stop such a nice event?" Basically, it was because the government cared more about the World Cup than about things that actually matter, like our poor education system and bad conditions of life in general. This nation may be considered "developing" in terms of economy and PCI, but the truth is that most of the people are drowning in poverty. The politicians saw the event as a way to get money from tourism. And what do they do with public money? NOT improvements for people. They steal from people who are already poor, while they lie about plans for a better country that will never materialize.

So, let me talk some more about the protests. They were always overcrowded by people of many social classes, fighthing for a common reason, trying to overcome every injustice. It was a beautiful chaos. Of course, there were some rioters who only wanted to vandalize public assets. They were called "black blocks", and I'm totally against their actions. In order to stop them, the military police began to invade the manifestations. In theory, they were suposed to pacify the people. But what they did was to try to stop the violence with even more violence. They used actually harmful ways, like latex bullets and tear gas. Also, they used to beat people unconscious.

There is a popular TV channel here called "Rede Globo", which is the equivalent to a Brazilian BBC. This channel is a liar which supports the politician and alienates ignorant people. d about the protests. Basically, they criminalized the people and glorified the violent police. They only showed the destruction of private property, not thr unfair violent against common citizens. My parents believed in "Rede Globo", so they forbidded me to go to protests because they didn't want me to be influenced by vandalism. But my best friend did go to every single protest. He had to use a black mask to protect himself from the tear gas (it actually hurts).

LARGEST SOLAR PLANT CONSTRUCTED
Clean Energy Source
California Mojave Desert

This February 13th, the world's largest solar plant was completed. Mirrors around a large tower full of water redirect sunlight onto the tower, boiling the water in the tower. The steam turns a generator wheel and generates a clean, cheap source of energy that will power 140,000 homes near the area.

@Arya;; There was a vaguely similar problem for the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Terroristic threats against it aside, they hastily built hotels to house the appropriate number of tourists who would be flooding in from... Everywhere. Underconstructed hotels aside, they spent 50 billion dollars on construction relevant to the games. Not far away, over the mountains, is the poorest region of Russia, where running water, electric, heat, and gas are hard to come by. The houses are dilapidated It's terribly poverty stricken, and next to none of the money from the games went to bettering their lives. In fact, it made getting to Sochi more expensive. While a lot of these people are still overjoyed that Russia one the games, it's still a huge problem that so much money was funneled into an arena and hotels twenty miles away, but they can't spare any funds to better the lives of their own people.

I also vaguely remember hearing on the news that the nearby villages actually saw a lot of garbage from the construction, (torn down material, dirtied water, etc.) from the nearby building, but I have no sources to back that up rn.
