An Endless Sea of Sky

Post by Steve Rogers on 12/5/2014, 5:21 pm

There are ancient tales of giant dragons with antlers and no wings who walk the earth in search of light. They breath in the illumination and let settle in their lungs, breathing moons every time they exhale. Stories of these dragons are rare and unwonted, whispered on the wind in hushed tones like the lyrics of some half-forgotten song.

On the banks of the muddy river, one young man -crippled- sits in a wheel chair in the snow and sketches legends in his lap. He dream of light breathing dragon and miracles. He dreams of fire maned horses and masks and fields of flowers. But most of all dreams of dancing.

A slight blonde girl was hanging around the lake for only one reason, to avoid people. There wasnít any particular reason she was hiding from her friends, she just found herself wanting to be alone. She had spent the whole week in rehearsal. Her feet were killing her, her arms and legs ached and she was sick of hearing A Pine Forest in Winter. But her ballet teacher just pushed her harder and harder. Being the Snow Queen was good though, it meant she was talented. Although she could do without the other characters calling her Elsa. They arenít even the same characters. All of this complaining would make it seem that Sophie hated ballet, but she didnít. She loved it.

Sophie became aware of the other boy in the vicinity. She didnít take that much notice to him. She was too busy hoping the cold would make her muscles feel better. She didnít want to get too close to the water, it looked close to freezing over. When it did, people would probably try to ice skate on it. Sophie remembered a story where a girl was skating on a frozen pond and fell in, and then drowned. She remembered the whole story being a bit macabre, but that was the general plot line. On the plus side, Sophie didnít even know how to skate.

The pencil danced across the paper quickly, gracefully. It moved as though it were a ballerina, performing some ballet akin to The Nutcracker. Snow began to fall, feather-like, hanging heavy on the lashes of the artist; but still the pencil did not stop. It danced and it danced and it danced. It danced until the fingers grew stuff and tired from the cold. But still, the pencil did not stop. For it feared that if it stopped, it would no longer have any purpose.

Liam's eyes flickered across the sketchbook in his lap. The icy air was biting against his poor, reddened face. He continued to sketch and sketch and sketch until suddenly, abruptly, he just stopped. The pencil was frozen in his fingers but it did not move. His eyes flashed upward toward the sky and he frowned, staring longingly at the falling snow.

Sophieís gaze settled on the boy across the way. She stood still, the snowflakes starting to settle on her hair and shoulders. Then she started to walk over to the boy, mentally rehearsing in her head what she was going to say. What? It wasnít like she could make up an introduction on the fly. She wasnít so good at that sort of thing. Sophie wrapped her scarf more tightly around her neck and stuffed her hands into her jacket pockets.

Sophie stepped over a couple logs and rocks on her way over, all the while doing her best not to slip on the icy dirt. She wasnít sure how cold it was, but it mustíve been under 0į celsius. She approached him, making sure to be in view. She didnít want to give anyone a start. That is not how you make friends effectively. ďHey there. Sorry if I interrupted you, or anything. I just wanted to say, Iíve never seen anyone sit in the snow to draw. I personally commend you on your cold resistance.Ē The New Zealander smiled shifting her weight a little to keep the blood flowing.

It took Liam longer than it should've to register that she had been speaking to him. He looked up, slowly to meet her gaze. After a moment, he smiled. "Sorry, I didn't see you there. The cold helps me think," he grinned.

OOC short post. Sorry, not feeling to great today :(
