The Birds

Post by Steve Rogers on 3/29/2015, 12:52 am

Demetrius had only ever heard of Stymphalian Birds once before, in an old legend. He never once expected to find the ancient, deadly birds nesting in the Southern Woods. He had been wandering around the forest looking for his lost pet lioness, Nyro (long story) when he stumbled across a whole flock of the iron beaked birds. The birds were naturally aggressive and would attack on sight.

Demetrius did his best not to be spotted as he attempted to back away from the dozens of nesting monsters. His plan had gone quite well until he stepped on a bit of broken glass. His gold eyes flashed wide in fear. One if the birds looked up and locked eyes with the child of Bastet, then gave a soul shattering shriek and alerted all the other birds to his presence.

Lucy was just walking around the forest, minding her own business when she heard the ear-splitting shriek. She ran towards it, her blonde hair being blown back and out of her face. Her blue-grey eyes were narrowed with determination as she ran. She saw one of the birds and grabbed a stick. She leapt through the air and landed on the bird, swinging the stick around to bash it in the head. She watched it fall and jumped to the ground. She looked at the boy.

"Are you alright?" she asked.

"Me? Great. Absolutely peachy," Demetrius said, sarcasm dripping from his voice. "How about you?" He asked casual, although the adrenalin made it a bit difficult to control his unruly German accent.

His hand flew to his side, searching for his beloved battle axe but to no avail. Instead he found a slightly dulled training sword; he had been practicing his swordsman ship earlier and must've forgotten to pick up his axe on the way out of the training arena.

"Perfect." Lucy said, ignoring the sarcasm. A bird flew at her so she whipped her dagger out and swung it around, slicing the bird's head off. There were more than Lucy could count. She sincerely hoped that this kid knew how to fight. Another bid flew at her so she used the stick to knock it into a tree.

"Well this is fun. I'm Lucy by the way." Lucy yelled. It probably wasn't the best time to make conversation but whatever. Lucy glanced over at the guy to make sure he could handle himself.

"Name's Demetrius," he said, grinned cheekily. A bird flew in from his left and with one swift movement, he cut it clean down the middle. "Lovely weather we're having,"

OOC sorry, short post, phone dying.

"Oh, yeah, totally gorgeous." Lucy said as she cut another bird's head off. She tabbed the next one in the chest.

"What do you think the temperature is at?" she asked. This was kind of fun. Another bird flew up behind Demtrius so Lucy jumped on it's back and stabbed it.

"60-65. Absolutely beautiful out," he grinned and slashed at the birds attempting to pick him apart. "I'm a Bastet kid, by the way. What about you?"

"Isis!" Lucy replied, killing a few more birds. Suddenly, one knocked her down, sending the stick flying and her dagger rolled away from her a bit. The bird trapped her down and Lucy tried reach for the dagger.

"You're an Egyptian too!" he exclaimed. Egyptians were a huge minority at camp. He was glad to meet others like him. Everything was going so well. He was in control. Then, suddenly, he wasn't.

He swung his sword a bit too late and missed the bird he was aiming at. His eyes went wide. There was a white hot pain in his abdomen. He pitched forward and cried out as the bird removed it's bloody beak and flapped away. There was a moment of shock. He dropped his sword and let his guard down. The here was another flash of pain in his shoulder followed by more pain in his bicep. The birds were taking advantage of his lowered guard and were attacking him mercilessly.

Demetrius and Allison had met earlier in the woods when she found him being mauled by monster birds. Allison hadn't seen anything like that before and was pretty shocked. She had drawn her daggers, which looked really small compared to the birds.

The whole world seemed to stop turning. Everything became still and silent. In the back of his head, Demetrius heard a quiet clock. Tick... Tick... Tick...

Allison stood still, she looked at Demetris with a confused face. Her dark brown eyes searched for some answers, but she only found more questions. He had no better idea than she. Allison gulped and covered her ears. She didn't like the ticking.

Demetrius was glad she was here to help him in this rather unfortunate situation. He had only once met her, that one time by the lake. But she was a familiar face and he liked familiar faces.

Allison smiled at him. She hadn't known him well, but at least she knows him. One of the few people in the huge camp. It was interesting to see how he reacted to the ticking, unlike her who still had her hand on her ears. "Whats going on?" she said loudly, not knowing that she was yelling.

OOC So, I don't know how you've managed to miss this, but he's been stabbed. That's why I quoted myself in my last post.

OOC my post was a response to the stab. It was the idea that when you get stabbed, time slows down.
