Live Bait

Post by Metilinos on 6/6/2016, 3:57 am

Robert wasn't in particular a fan of nature exploration or even hiking in general as of lately, with finding out he was a demigod, the world suddenly became significantly more dangerous. Of course, it was dangerous before, as humans and wild animals were pretty brutal. But monsters that could hide under the phenomenon that was the mist, it was a whole new threat, one that would kill a demigod at any chance given. However, Robert was determined to push his boundaries, get data on monsters and their tendencies, and attempt to expand upon his nerves. He was a relatively brave kid, though, most of that changed when it turned out that monsters could very well be in his closet. Regaining that confidence could be key if he wanted a normal life.

He was taking a hike through woods as close to Providence as he could. There had been no monsters around, and Robert was beginning to wonder if it was the area in general or if he had masked his scent well. Wearing jeans and a cap were two things he didn't like, at least in the Summer, but they were necessary for easy access with ticks. At least there was a light rain that kept the cool in the air, and luckily, because of the hair, his dirty blonde hair remained dry.

He hadn't taken the trail, as he had the last three walks, and was only attacked once. He was far off enough now that he figured it was safe to say it was a monster free environment. He spotted something glimmering on the ground, and thought it was strange, surely it wasn't hunting season. Robert crouched down to get a closer look at what he perceived to be a snare.

Lyon would never be caught dead dressed like one of the younger hunters, let alone like it. But she had to admit, with not a whole lot on her plate for the day she was actually growing accustomed to the attire. Sure the leggings were a bit bright and there was way more skin showing than she was used to but times were changing and if she ever needed to go into a town for some reason she was determined to make sure she fit in.

With rain being on and off all day the daughter of Apollo remained in her tent with her companions so go over hunting strategies as well as fighting ones, seeing as war and conflict was inevitable with the blithering idiots known as the greek demigods. Having dozed off earlier, oddly enough while leaning against her wolf friend, the huntress was now on trap checking duty.

For the most part they were empty but there was a hare in one which she had Leon take back to the campgrounds for whomever it was that was cooking dinner that day. Twirling an arrow between her fingers the huntress heard the rustling of leaves where her next trap was and hid soundless in a bush while knocking the arrow on her bow. Peering through the bush she noticed a demigod and internally frowned. What in the name of hades is a greek doing in our grounds. She thought while letting the arrow fly and whiz past the kid, sinking into a tree right behind him. Get up slowly and put your hands behind your head. She demanded as Fearow landed on a tree branch and cawed at the demigod, leave it to the Raven to try and be menacing.

Robert hadn't hear a single sound, nothing out of the ordinary anyway. Maybe there had been a stray squirrel in a tree or a bird flying overhead, but as for the floor of the forest, Robert hadn't even heard a whisper. Then, the very next moment, an arrow whizzed by him and dead center within the tree. Robert couldn't see the head of the arrow, from a combination of how deep it had gone in and the angle he was at. One thing was for sure, in one single moment he realized something. He'd picked the wrong place to be at the wrong time. He didn't try to run though, whoever the shooter was knew their stuff.

The dirty blonde demigod heard the voice, but he didn't look back to see her. He'd done plenty of research for a paper on Stockholm syndrome once, and if you didn't look at a potential killer, you had a much better chance at surviving, as you couldn't report them if you survived because you'd never seen them. Other than that, Robert stayed crouched. He knew it was likely she would either have him stand or kneel, in which he would follow. But he knew waiting for orders was what was best.

He placed his hands behind his head, as she had asked him to. "I'm sorry. I saw the trap and curiosity got the best of me." Robert admitted. He kept his explanation short. He didn't want to anger the girl, especially while he was certain she could just kill him if things went south. Nobody would ever even know.

Glaring at the kid who refused to look at her she let another arrow fly and at that moment Fearow cawed. You will speak only when spoken to, now turn around and face me. She glared at the demigod. The fact that he was naive enough to think he was fine with simply obeying was almost comical.
