| I stepped into the cabin and went straight to my bunk. I hugged the spell book I had been reading all day and put it under my pillow. It had saved a life today. I wondered to myself if Dez was still there. I shrugged and figured she probably still was. I pulled up the covers and fell asleep. |

| Emma returned carrying four books and dropped them on her bed. She saw a Lioness curled up on her bed and smiled. I guess Rylee knew where I was. She scratched the large cat's chin and it stretched out, reaching the length of Emma's bed. She scooted her to the end of her bed and lay down. While Emma opened up, The Story of Creation, Rylee lay herself next to her. She stroked her head and Rylee purred while Emma read. There were actually several stories in the book, so she just read the first one.
"In the beginning there was only Nu, the dark waters of Chaos. One day a mound called Ben-Ben arose from the water. On this hill was the first god named Atum."
There was an illustration of an egyptian man with a double crown standing on a hill with water all around.
"Atum coughed and spat out Shu. He was the god of air. Atum also spat out Tefnut, the goddess of moisture."
There was another illustration of the three gods standing on Ben-Ben. Shu was pictured as a man with a feathery headdress while Tefnut had the head of a lioness.
"The two new gods, Shu and Tefnut, had two children. Geb and Nut, the god of the Earth and the goddess of the sky. Shu lifted Nut up so that she made a canopy over Geb."
Another picture displayed a man holding up a blue woman covered in stars. A man was lying on the ground beneath her.
"Nut and Geb had four children. They were Osiris, Isis, Seth, and Nephthys."
Another image showed the four children.
"Osiris and Isis became king and queen of the Earth. Osiris was a good king and ruled the Earth for many years. However, not everyone was happy. Seth was jealous of Osiris and grew angrier and angrier until he one day killed the king. Osiris went to the underworld while Osiris became king."
Another image illustrated Osiris being king and then Seth killing him. The next image showed Osiris in the underworld and Seth becoming king.
"Osiris and Isis had a son named Horus. Horus fought Set and reclaimed the throne. In the end Horus was the king of the Earth and Horus was the king of the Underworld."
The story ended and Emma closed the book. She looked at Rylee next to her, who was still purring. Emma smiled and stroked her back. |
