PostSubject: Welcome to the FAYZ [Fallout Alley Youth Zone]   Wed Apr 27, 2011 5:39 pm

If this isn't allowed, let me know and I'll move it from CHB.

Okay, so basically it's a role play. :3 You don't have to have read the books to join; there will be no spoilers. Unless I get told off, we'll be 'playing in this topic. Standard CHB rules apply. Please avoid OoC whenever possible. You can make a discussion thread if you really need to. Also, don't post a bunch with just one person, like you would normally. We don't want people getting behind and confused. I'm hoping for long, quality posts that show insight on your character(s) and moves the story along. Stretch yourself a bit in this rp.

The story: It's a normal school day when -poof- everyone above the age of 14 disappears. Gone. No one knows why or how, but kids are rejoicing because it means school's out. There's free candy in the stores; no one is around to tell them to stop playing video games; life becomes one big party. But there are other kids who start missing their mommy and daddy. When will they be back?

Will they be back?

It's discovered that this poof happened to a certain area. A dome (or maybe globe?) surrounds a twenty-mile radius around the power-plant down the highway [see maps below]. It's also discovered that kids are getting (and have been getting) powers. Like X-men stuff. Sometimes they're scary, sometimes they seem useless, and sometimes they help people survive.

There are two schools within the radius of the FAYZ: Perdido Beach Elementary and Coats Academy. [Correct me if I got them wrong...] Coats is a place for rich kids, but mostly a place for "troubled" kids.

[Ask me any questions or suggest a better description through pm, please!]

The Form: I'm gunna explain the form and then give it to you. Avoid using a name already taken, even one in the books. We had a girl named Sam in my last rp and I started getting confused lol. Your character MUST be younger than 15. If the character is 14, state how soon their birthday is. For power, you only get one, and you need to rate it 1-3 bars, 3 being the strongest. You don't need to be terribly creative if you don't want to (basic powers like levitation and invisibility are perfectly fine), but don't take a power someone else already has. The appearance is general, probably close to a paragraph. If you use a picture, put it in a spoiler please. Same with personality, though more like two paras. Before the FAYZ is like before CHB, so close to one to two paras. Entering the FAYZ is like the rp example, but basically you tell us where your character was when the poof happened.

Finally, about the books. There are four out so far, with two more announced. [Gone, Hunger, Lies, Plague, Fear, and Light. I have read up to Lies because I'm getting them in paperback.] They're written by Michael Grant, and have been praised by some top-notch people. Stephen King, for example, says he loves the books. "Exciting, high-tension stories." ALA Booklist says, "Disturbing, brilliantly plotted, and boasting a balanced mix of action and scheming." I highly recommend you read them, especially if you enjoy the rp. :3

Thanks for the support, guys. Yes, it is way fun. The last time I did this, it was almost more epic than the book. Good times, good times!

Oh! I forgot my own character's form. Oops, what a bad OP I am. Heh.

Name: Parker Maeolin
Age: 10
Gender: male
Power: invisibility, 2 bar. If someone else wants it, let me know; I have a backup.
Appearance: He has veryvery light blond hair and blue eyes. He has pale skin because he doesn't go outside very much AT ALL. He's kind of short for his age, but not by much. His hair is kind of messy and his eyes scream innocence.

Personality: Since Parker has been heavily sheltered throughout his life, he is quiet and shy around almost anyone. He's often unnoticed and is kind of the "wall flower" type. He doesn't mind. Usually his thoughts are elsewhere.

He knows A LOT about politics. He grew up with uber-political parents, so they taught him a lot more than any kid his age aught to know. However, he won't show his political knowledge voluntarily. If you're lucky, it'll slip out while he's talking. Normally, though, you have to coax it out. You really have to badger him to learn about him.

Before the FAYZ: Life was quiet. Mom and Dad ate at opposite ends of the designer table. Parker sat on the long edge, facing away from the wall-sized windows that showed the full layout of the building, with the swimming pool in the middle. Daddy had a newspaper out; Mommy was taking notes for work. Parker ate his cereal, not saying a word like he was supposed to. In the Maeolin mansion, conversation was nearly nonexistent.

Entering the FAYZ: Parker doodled in his notebook, wishing he could actually draw. His mind's eye saw the most fantastic landscapes and monsters, heroes and villains, but all his fingers produced were scribbles. Sometimes he also wished he had the words to describe it all, but that didn't really matter as much. He had the fantasy world to himself. No one else needed to hear about it.

Midway through a sentence, the teacher went silent. Parker didn't really notice, but other kids did. No one said anything at first. But then it dawned on them that they could go outside. They could leave class. Or maybe they freaked out. Parker wasn't really sure which, but he sure wanted to go outside. He wanted to sit on the swing for a while. That was always fun. Unless the bullies pushed him off.

He waited for the bustling crowd to die down. He stayed in his seat as other kids rushed outside. Nothing worth being hasty over. Besides, he still had his fantasy world and the doodles...
