I remembered why we were there and tensed up. "Um...one week ago, my dad and I were going for a hike on a trail near our house. We had stopped for a rest when I had to go to the bathroom. I walked off and as I headed back, I heard a deep voice from where my dad was." I looked at Trevaus's face for a reaction, then continued. "The voice said that he could smell a daughter of Athena nearby, and if my dad didn't tell him where she was, he would kill him. My father said nothing, and when I peeked out to see who was there, I saw my dad on the ground and the back of a beast facing me. My father caught my eye and mouthed run, but I was too afraid. At that moment, the creature pulled back his fist and punched my dad so hard...I heard a crack." I stopped and tried to control my tears.

bic: I waited a moment and tried to calm down. There was still more to the story. I took a few deep breaths and continued. "My dad was unconscious after that, and I had screamed out. The beast sniffed the air and I ducked behind a bush. The creature turned around, and that was when I saw what it was. It was a..." I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to block out the image of the large eye-just one-that covered its face. "It was a cyclopes. It looked right where I was hiding and smiled. Before I could even process what was happening, it was standing above me, an evil glint in its eye. Then, it knocked me out. When I woke, I was in some cave, bound hand and foot. The cyclopes was sitting there, and soon noticed I was awake. 'Hello! Daughter of Athena!' it said. 'I will tell you a story. A few years ago, I had captured a boy and girl around your own age. I was planning to eat them when a young girl, about seven, came in with a knife. She was a daughter of Athena. Blonde hair, gray eyes. Her name was something like Annabelle or Hannabeth. She defeated me. Now that I have been reborn, I have sworn to torture all the children of Athena I find. Lucky you, you are first.' He smiled at me and so began the worst week of my life." I stopped and the tears really did start to flow. "It was horrible." I whispered.

I start. I had forgotten that I had an audience. But as I look into his eyes, I know he is telling the truth. I smile, and squeeze his hand lightly. "Thanks" I say. It seems so pathetic to say just that one word, but I realize that it sums up how I am feeling: gratitude. I look at the wall and sigh. I looked outside and saw the sky darkening. "I should get going" I said. I gave him a hug and a smile, then left the cabin, feeling like I had finally made a friend.

Hermes walked in, holding a funny little contraption that turned into a jet ski. He frowned, putting it on Trevaus's bunk and stared at it for a moment. Then, he left.
