Actually, the reason guys like girls that are shorter than them and girls like guys that are taller than them comes down to this:

Way back when, men were the protectors of women, so to speak, so women wanted a man who was big and could protect her. Men wanted to feel like they were dominant and had someone to protect. It's just a natural human instinct.
