I need some help

Post by Samus on 3/22/2015, 11:26 am

So my childhood dog, Toby, was just put to sleep after 14 years living with us.
Yeah.
I'm definitely emotional about it. Maybe not as much as I imagined I would be, but I am. I don't know what to feel right now, like I don't know what to do with my arms or legs besides take me away from that vet, my family, my house, the world. Everything. That's probably the reason why I'm sitting at the bottom of a drainage ditch, typing this up on my phone. My mom keeps telling me "It'll be all right, don't worry." People who say that don't get the understandable logic of "Why would you be telling me not to worry if there's nothing to worry about?" I just don't feel right right now. Any help?
Also, please try to stay on topic.

Numbness can be a form of grief in and of itself. Usually associated with denial in the 5 stages of grieving. It's okay, it's normal to feel numb for a little while. Being honest about not feeling as much as you think you should is good too.

When I deal with death, I find that I often go numb for several hours or a day as a sort of self-defense field against feelings. As long as you take the time to acknowledge your feelings over time, it'll get better.

It will still suck like a black hole, but it will get better.

Talking about it helps. Remembering the good times with the pup helps.

Don't let the death of a loved one affect your life to the extreme. Do your mourning, be sad about it, but continue living. There's no point to live if you spend it grieving about the death of someone you love. It's good to remember them and miss them, and if you do that, then they'll always be in your heart. It's impossible to forget about someone you truly loved, and even though most people forget about pets after a long time, it's still tragic that you had to endure the loss of someone you've been with your entire life. I know it'll feel like somethings missing, because you're not used to not having her, but I promise you that you'll be okay.
