london bridges falling down (open)

Today was going pretty good for Roslyn, which was really saying something. An unassuming chirp of happiness seemed to have etched itself onto her heart, causing a little extra bounce to become apparent in her usually wobbly step. She hadn't fallen once, and she had acquired a new entire book full of sheet music for her ukulele! Having tucked the foot-and-a-half thick binder full of pages between the left side of her chest and her right arm, she clutched her precious uke' in her left hand at her side. Trotting down the steps of the Apollo cabin, the petite girl hummed a sweet tune, one of jumbled yet smooth sounding notes that vibrated from her vocal chords and into the air.
The sun shone bright today, as it always had with the controlled weather conditions, but for Roslyn, it seemed to make her as cheery as ever. Wearing the issued out Camp Half-Blood tee (tied up slightly with a ponytail to keep from being rather baggy on her small frame), a nice pair of jean shorts that her mother had recently sent her in idle hope that she would wear them out, and a flower crown of bright yellow Ranunculus flower crown perched upon her wavy long brown hair. Glancing down every now and then as she shuffled across the area, though she seemed quite focused on other things at the moment, rather than just falling flat.
Though, the Fates seemed to have it in for the daughter of Apollo, for as soon as she took her eye line off of the ground before her, a rock had snuck it's way in front of her foot, and before she could step around, it quickly claimed her as it's victim. With a shrill squeak of shock, she tottered forward in a flash, letting go of her binder full of sheet music to catch herself from face planting completely. Barely catching herself, her left arm stuck up a bit to keep her ukulele from touching the ground. Her palm cut slightly and her wrist beginning to bruise from the shock of catching herself barely an inch from the ground, Roslyn tilted her head up to scan any damage of dropping her binder. A groan reverberating from her, she let herself fall flat on the ground the last inch in the space between her and the dusty path of the courtyard. Roslyn's sheet music had indeed fallen out and all 150 new white-as-an-eggshell pieces of sheet music lay spread out before her like a vast sea of torment and humiliation. Roslyn had spoken too soon, it was not going to be a good day after all.

August walked through the cabins courtyard, going in no place in particular. The 17 year old son of Ares had his usual cold hearted expression on his face. His day was going perfectly fine until the girl tripped into him. He stumbled forward loosing his balance slightly as he saw papers flying everywhere. August caught himself before he fell, "gods! watch where your going will ya?" he growls as he looks at the girl who had fallen and is now on the ground. August could feel his face automatically go into a glare.

Roslyn had thought that she could escape the public humiliation of tripping and spilling all of her possessions on the ground, but to make matters even more worse, she had even bumped into a person as well. A small whimper of shame escaping her, she pushed herself up so she sat back on her knees. A small sniffle escaping her, she forced herself to erase the tears that began to prick her eyes, if she wasn't so gosh darn clumsy she wouldn't have been in this mess in the first place! The mousy girl pushed her bangs out of her eyes and adjusted her yellow flower crown that was in a state of disarray at the moment. Setting her uke' in the lap of her knees, she looked up at the tall, pretty scary boy with widened eyes. Not only had she bumped into and almost knocked down a stranger, but he also had to be one of the scariest looking kids at camp. Just her luck.
"Sorry." Her soft voice filtered from her throat, even though in the circumstances she was in, Roslyn might've cowered in fear. But for now she only felt embarrassment.

August could tell that this small girl was embarrassed and that she was on the verge of tears but the small, almost nonexistent voice in the back of his head telling him to be nice was over powered by anger. "you better be sorry." he said in a low, scary voice, his eyes still glaring at the girl. But as August looked at her he felt a little... guilty? wow this must be the first time hes felt that in a long time. But just looking at this girl who was about to start crying the little voice in the back of his head was beginning to grow louder. August, being his usual self, decided to ignore the voice and he kept glaring at her.

Roslyn wasn't one to fight back much. In fact, she prided herself on being a lover rather than a fighter. And in this case, an optimist was the best route to go at the current moment. The tears instantly disappearing in the wide eyes of the fifteen year old girl, a bright smile suddenly broke across her face like the sun rising at dawn. "And that I am, sorry!" She chirped in her soft voice, one that suddenly held much friendliness, and not like she was terrified in the slightest. Stooping down onto her hands and knees, Roslyn quickly began gathering the many sheets of paper that now lay fanned out across the ground like a brilliant white wave. Feeling his glare burn onto the back of her head, she silently gulped as she braced herself for the pummeling that was sure to follow. She just hoped he went a little easier on small, mousy girls.

The next thing that August did surprised himself more than it would anyone. Instead of hurting this girl or yelling at her, he knelt down and starting picking up the papers that were everywhere. He didn't have the slightest idea why he was doing this, but it was definitely not something that he would have done before. The 17 year old boy's face stayed as expressionless as it was before, but his eyes began to soften as his hands filled with the white papers. Maybe it was because she was small or maybe it was just because he was having a good day but something felt different inside of him. He was actually starting to feel a little guilty for yelling at her before...
