Murder at the gala (private)

Post by Morgan Landry on 12/28/2017, 10:59 am

The three girls who walked through the doors of the Holloway Charity Gala didn't stand out from the crowd. In rich get-ups and flawless make up they looked like your average run-of-the-mill socialites, attending yet another event to network and have fun.
Gwladys Argall, nicknamed Lady, was the attractive brunette sheathed in a glittering gold dress. The back of the gown was open, but set with strings of pearls draping down the curve of her spine. With such a dress she hardly needed any jewelry, yet she had insisted on wearing clusters of pearls around each wrist.
Ida O'Connor was less shimmering and looked more serious and down-to-business in a sophisticated white jumpsuit, her red hair braided into a crown around her head. She wore discrete gold collar pins, her shiny belt accenting the curve of her waist.

Lady had insisted on picking out everybody's dresses and doing their hair and make-up for them. Since she was the daughter of Freya and could manipulate eyeliner and lipgloss without a second thought, Ida had agreed to let her do it. Not to mention she loved being in Lady's care. There was this softness in her touch that simply sent her heart racing....

For Barbara, Lady had chosen a black qipao with golden lining and embroideries. It might be a bit far from Barb's usual fashion tastes, but Lady liked playing the stylist. Plus, Barbs looked killer in Chinese formal wear.

"Alright, girls, no need to stress, I've briefed you on everything," Lady said, popping her knuckles. "This is just another society gala, nothing to worry about."

"You're literally the only one fidgeting," Ida told her.

Lady waved her hand as if swatting an annoying fly. "Nonsense! Okay, so maybe this is my first gala in the twenty-first century, but if I could survive the one in 1937 -- remember dear, the one with the cheese fountain --"

"I remember," Ida nodded gravely.

"-- Then this one is nothing at all! On we go. Stay savage, darlings."

The silk fabric rubbed against Barbs skin as she walked with the other two deadly women into this large gala held in quite a stylish location. Although this valkyrie preferred the feeling of her armor on her torso (or just her leather jacket), she has to admit that the eastern fashions that Lady had picked out for her did make her feel beautiful as well as incredibly confident.

Staying quiet, Barbs listened and covered her mouth to stifle a giggle as the incident of '37 was mentioned. She wasnt even born yet but her two cohorts had mentioned it before, several times in fact when preparing for this event. At the mention of savagery Barbs nodded her head, careful not to disturb the spectacular hairdo that she had been given by Lady. She had to admit though, she had done a good job on all three of them, cleaning them up to fit into the crowd.

The gala was well underway. Lady helped herself to a flute of golden champagne while Ida plucked delicacies from the gilded trays, with as much grace as a Viking could muster. Hopefully eating wouldn't ruin her make-up -- Lady had spent ages on her lipstick alone.

The daughter of Odin mingled with the guests. For someone who was usually loud and brash, she started conversations with surprising ease, landing a witty line here and there, pretending to be an heiress of old Norwegian money. Lady on the other hand decided to stick with Barbs and criticize everyone, handing her little caviar sandwiches on a plate.

"By my mother's necklace, will you check out that woman over there? What the Hel is she even wearing?" she snorted, then her eyes latched on to someone else. "And gods of Asgard, I hope that's not a pair of Websters she's wearing. We're at a Gala, for crying out loud!"

Barbs listened to Lady for a few minutes, holding a flute of the golden, bubbling liquid in one hand as her close friend and fellow Valkyrie berated and insulted nearly every guest that came near them and then walked away. Eventually Barbs strutted off to one of the tables containing various foods and sweets, dragging her in tow. Once at the table she grabbed the closest sweet she could and shoved it into Lady’s mouth.

“Oh will you shut up?” She whispered lightly, a small and delighted smile on her face before turning to locate the last member of their trio-still mingling with the others.

"Well excuse you but these people clearly need fashion counselling!" Lady protested with her mouth full.
Then it happened.
A ripple down her spine at first, a disturbance in the air, as if the windows had shattered in another dimension. She grabbed Barbs and dragged her underneath a table just as the windows shattered for real with a deafening crash, sending glass showering through the room. Next came the gun noises. Then the fighting broke out.
Lady stepped back out from beneath the table, and saw in the blur of action that Ida had already begun the job, taking off from the ground and scanning the room for valiant souls. She was resplendent in her winged helmet and golden armour, glittering in the light of the broken chandeliers.

"Time to work, snookums," she said, feeling helmet and armour latch on to her body. Her axe appeared in her hand and she jumped into the air, her hair trailing behind her as she whirled to a stop next to Ida. It was always a competition between the three of them, who'd get the bravest einherjar to Valhalla. Currently Ida was three points ahead and Lady intended to change that.

The noise of gunfire filled the massive rooms in which the gala was being held, the large and (supposedly) bulletproof windows shattering and spraying glass all over the well-dressed participants. Barbs felt herself being dragged underneath one of the tables and a split second after that the young Valkyrie felt her armor attach to her body, her hand wrapping around her ax and hammer combination, standing up during the gunfire and shattering the table as she did. Her well trained eyes picked out the weapons that the gunmen were using as she made her way to the others, cursing under her breath as she knew Ida was already three points ahead.

The weapons firing from nearly a dozen assailants were standard MP5s and Skorpions, showering the guests in a hail of gunfire. Sliding to a stop besides Ida and Lady, she gave them both a smirk “Ready?” She asked, and without awaiting an answer launched into action.

Ida had already spotted someone: about 25, he had picked up a gun and started shooting the attackers to protect a group of guests. She flew closer, angling her bodycam so that it would perfectly capture the situation. He was talented and precise, his tuxedo splattered with blood and glass shards. Suddenly a rapid fire hit him in the chest and he dropped to the floor with a convulsion. His soul slowly emerged from his body, but before she could take hold of him, Lady swooped down out of nowhere. "Come with me," she said, and took the glowing soul by the hand.

"Lady, what the Hel?"

"Get rekt!" She glanced at the man's soul. "Isn't that how the younger generation says these days?"

"Y- Yes," he stammered, clearly lost.

Lady winked at her girlfriends and gathered speed in her flight, shooting through the shattered windows and out into the night sky.

"I'll kill her," Ida sighed. She deleted her video and resumed her circling of the battlefield, scanning for possible recruits in her father's Ragnarök army.

Barbs paused after one welcoming of a soul, turning to see the snatch and laughed, knowing that was just her girlfriends style. “all is fair!” She called out, working out through the crowd, grabbing and offering her hand to a young woman who had tried to throw silverware and anything she could to defend her friends and elderly mother.

Finished with there, she was still a few behind the other two and sprinted across the room, jumping into the air, moving close to one of the gunmen, now without his weapon and blocking a punch from a well dressed man in a tuxedo, her bodycamera angling to collect the right view of the situation.
